In the documentary The Hands That Feed Us , filmmaker Devon Cooke sets out to discover why he failed to realize his dream of becoming a farmer. The film explores the romance and finance of farming, and all the ups and downs of living and working on a farm. The film follows Devon as he embeds on five farms from Vancouver Island to Nova Scotia, talking with folks from a market gardener to a commodity grain farmer, exploring questions about the farm income crisis, land access, farm succession, and the farming lifestyle.
Devon Cooke
Devon Cooke is a Filmmaker, Video Producer, Event Planner, Location Audio Technician, Dancer, and Philosopher. He is a graduate of the UBC philosophy program and has been doing film work ever since. Devon has worked on everything from giant Hollywood blockbusters to not-for-profit campaigns to your brother’s neighbour’s short student film, and his favourite is documentary. There is nothing else he’d rather do. He believes that ideas can and do change the world, and that storytelling is how those ideas spread. He tells stories he cares about, stories that matter, and then he finds the people who want to hear them. And that brings him to you, here.
