Speaker Bio:
Nick Furneaux has been with the Ontario Public Service for over 20 years. Starting with the Ministry of Research & Innovation (MRI) in 2006, he was tasked with developing international science and technology collaborations. He was then transferred to the International Trade Division of the Ministry of Economic Development & Innovation (MEDI) in 2012, where he developed and led the Risk Capital Attraction Unit, soliciting foreign venture capital. In 2015, Nick returned to MRI (subsumed into the Ministry of Colleges & Universities in 2019) to continue to work on developing global strategies for international collaborations in research and innovation. In 2022, Nick was assigned back to the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation & Trade (MEDJCT) to assist with the development of the Export Growth Action Plan initiative. In 2023, he accepted the role of Senior Export Advisor for MEDJCT, tasked with providing programs and services offered by the Ontario government in aid of companies looking to start or expand their international exporting capabilities. Nick was born and raised in downtown Toronto and has a BA honours from Carleton University and an MA from the University of Toronto both in International Relations History.
