This August, the Westdale takes you back to the lazy, crazy and hazy days of 1986, with four of that summer’s greatest movies! Whether you’re just looking for a day off, a strange and hilarious trip into a mystical underworld, an awe-inspiring journey of a fantastical realm, or even a hike through the nostalgia of youth, our ‘Summer of ’86’ series is perfect for those who saw them in their original release, and even better for those who never got to experience these classics in a theatre!
Each film in the series screens twice on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings – click here to see all the films and showtimes!
40th Anniversary!
Jack Burton, the hard-boiled truck driver of the Pork Chop Express, gets caught in a bizarre conflict within, and underneath, San Francisco’s Chinatown. An ancient Chinese sorcerer-prince and Chinatown crime lord, David Lo Pan, has kidnapped a beautiful green-eyed woman, who is the fiancée to Jack’s best friend, Wang. Jack must help his friend rescue the girl before the evil Lo Pan uses her to break the ancient curse that keeps him a fleshless and immortal spirit. Director John Carpenter uses all the best elements of martial arts films, 1940s old action serials, Chinese mythology and straight-forward American adventure to make up a tale wild with imagination – a visually stunning work that ranks as one of Carpenter’s best films.
